Been crap at updating blog recently, mostly because I’ve been working very hard on my dissertation, going to interviews and have lost my internet connection at home due to Tiscali’s extreme uselessness.

Just came back from a wonderful weekend in Amsterdam where I saw a brilliant Millais exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum, a photography exhibit on Stasi interrogation rooms at the Foam Gallery and drank my weight in vodka. It’s such a peaceful and beautiful city – I always feel immediately calm when I step foot off the train from Schipol.

Will update more once the dissertation is over and my life starts again. Although I am going to see Patlabor tonight – an anime classic – at the Barbican, so I’m not being a complete hermit.

No write…..

No excuses really. It’s not even like I’ve been doing much since I finished my exams. I’ve just been LAZY, and drinking too much wine and messing about buying music, books and stuff.

Anyway, since I finished the exam hell period (which paid off ’cos I got Distinction in everything!) I have done a few exciting things.

Firstly, I went to Glastonbury! And yes, I fell in the mud. It was a little disgusting but it washed off.

I saw some fantastic music, highlights being Damien Marley, Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band (who played the theremin with his beer belly) , Soil and “Pimp” Sessions, Trentemoller, Ozric Tentacles and some other bits and bobs who I can’t remember. I saw snippets of Bjork (good music, shame about the voice), Iggy Pop (crap but iconic), Arcade Fire (sounded like a dirge but apparently are good), Joe Driscoll (gorgeous and lovely music), Four Tet (caught literally the last 20 seconds of “She Moves She” and that was the end of his set – what a bitch!), Squarepusher (similarly heard approximately 10 seconds before he ended) and Madness (watched from outside the Lost vagueness marquee because of packedness inside). I fought like a warrior mud princess with the constantly changing ground conditions until we gave up on Sunday morning and packed up and left. I’ll be going next year though, no doubt about it!

The rain has been a constant feature of the last 3 weeks. I don’t remember the weather ever being this bad before. Most people have actually stopped moaning about it (I know, the British not complaining about the weather?) because we are so weary of the puddles, black clouds and dashed hopes given by our brief glimpses of sunshine.

However, this is not to say I have not been enjoying myself. I’ve been to lots of lovely gigs, including the fabulous Soil and “Pimp” Sessions at the Jazz cafe who are insane Japanese jazz artists, KRS-1 at the Kentish Town Forum, Laurent Garnier at the End, Gonzales (my new love) at the RFH etc. I’ve also taken some time reacquanting myself with galleries, museums and the like which I haven’t been able to do since I came back from NY. I went to the Global Cities exhibit at the Tate Modern which I really enjoyed especially because I’m pretty sure now that I want to specialise in urban regeneration next year. I also saw the Gormley exhibit at the Hayward – not so impressed with this one. The sculptures outside scattered on random buildings on the Thames are amazing but the stuff inside was a bit disappointing. Especially the “Blind Light” box – I went the day after I returned from Glastonbury and it didn’t feel that special to be in a damp, humid and spatially uncomfortable place. However it did inspire to dig out my copy of Saramago’s “Blindness” and re-read it.

I saw the new David Lynch film “Inland Empire” and really enjoyed it. It’s another jumbled work of brilliance. I must see it again.

This week I’m heading back to my new favourite city: Berlin, to get some techno, marzipan and urban beach fun. Then going to Jesolo, near Venice, to get wasted for 6 days straight and probably come back whiter than when I went.

Anyway, at some point I will post up some more photos but I still haven’t transferred them from my camera because I’m a lazy bitch.

And with that, I am gone….
